The short explanation of this alert was:
Last month, the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy issued its preliminary report about the state of America's oceans. The report confirms that ocean habitats and wildlife are in serious danger, but it needs stronger recommendations for action if those dangers are to be avoided.
Before a final version of the report goes to President Bush and to Congress, your state's governor has until May 21 to make comments. Contact your Governor and urge him to suggest stronger policy recommendations in the final report!
